The 4th edition of the Eko International Film Festival, Lagos, which will take place from 18-23 November, is accepting film submissions until 30 September (with late submissions accepted until 15 October 2013).  See the rules on their site or quoted below:

ELIGIBILITY

Films must fit into one of the nine categories:Feature,Short, Fiction, comedy, documentaries, drama, Horror, Student Film 1 minute.

All music and other copyrighted materials used in the films must be original or filmmakers must have obtained permission in writing from the owner, such permissions to be submitted with the film.

All films must be submitted in English or subtitled in English.

GENERAL RULES:

Films must be submitted on DVD NTSC or PAL (please test before sending) and be available for screening on 35mm composite condition, Beta SP or Digi-Beta Video (NTSC only for festival screening).

Films must be available for screening during the Eko International Film Festival.

Narrative and Documentary films with U.S. distribution (obtained prior to being selected for EKOIFF screening) or films produced, financed or initiated by a major film studio or television network are ineligible for competition, but may be considered for special screening. Selection for screening will be determined no later than one month prior to the festival. Films that have screened at major cinemas and on cable network or distributed to theaters prior to the festival dates are also ineligible for competition.

Films that have played in Nigeria in a theatrical setting to a public audience are not eligible to be screened at the EKOIFF 2013.

Additional Narrative Feature Film Entry Requirements:

Feature-length Films must be 60 minutes or longer (recommended length 90 minutes).
Open to anyone (and all nationalities) who wishes to enter.

Additional Narrative Short Film Entry Requirements:

Films must be short narratives of 40 minutes or less (recommended length 10 minutes).
Open to anyone who wishes to enter.

Additional Narrative Student Short Film Entry Requirements:

Films must be short narratives of 40 minutes or less (recommended length 10 minutes).
Open only to students (must include proof of enrollment from accredited university or college).

One Minute Short Film Entry Requirements:

Entries must be short films of 1 minute (recommended length).
Award will be given to the best 1 minute film.
Open to any form of animation.
Open to anyone who wishes to enter.

Additional Documentary Feature Films Requirements

Films must be Documentaries, 40 minutes or longer
Open to anyone who wishes to enter.
Additional Documentary Short Film Requirements
Films must be Short Documentaries, 40 minutes or less
Open to anyone who wishes to enter.

SUBMISSION IS FREE

Please Note: Eko International Film Festival does not collect entry fees.
In a similar respect the EKOIFF does not solicit films to be in competition.
Only films submitted will be considered for competition.

Returns and Acknowledgments:
VHS tapes, DVDs, and press materials will not be returned under any circumstances. They will be destroyed after the final screenings at the film festival.
Include a self-addressed, stamped postcard for each submission if you wish acknowledgment of the receipt of your entry.

Safety and piracy issue

The festival is concerned that filmmakers’ rights should be protected against piracy. EKOIFF is establishing procedures that will guarantee these are up to profession’s best practice. These are inspired by the anti piracy actions taken in the USA and worldwide.

EKOIFF and Supple Communications Limited may also actively pursue other distribution opportunities for your film.

The filmmaker grants EKOIFF and Supple Communications Limited and other third parties at their discretion the right to film, videotape and/or photograph your appearance or voice for any and all marketing and promotional activities for the festival.

Your submission of an entry into the Eko International Film Festival constitutes an agreement between you and EKOIFF and Supple Communications Limited, and that by submitting your film for consideration, you agree to all of these rules, terms and agreements.

The Durban International Film Festival (DIFF), invites filmmakers to submit their entries for its 34^th edition which takes place from 18^th to 28^th July 2013. Call for Films: Nollywood Film Festival, India to be held 1-10 October 2011. Film Submission Deadline 25 September 2011

From Film Afrique.  Blues and Hills has clarified, upon inquiry, that the submission deadline for films is 25 September. The festival will hold October 1-10.

Nollywood goes to Bollywood

New Delhi, the capital of India, is set to host Nollywood filmmakers this October in celebration of Nigeria’s Independence Day. The Nollywood Film Festival-India will be a celebration of film, music and arts festival for new talents from Nigeria. It will feature Nigerian film practitioners, fashion designers and musicians.

Co-director of Nollywood Film Festival and CEO of Big Hitz Records, Henry Money Samuel, comments from his Delhi base: “There is a large community of Africans, especially West Africans living in Delhi alone, which is where we are taking the festival to, for the first time. We hope to organize exhibitions; workshops and cultural tours that will make them connect with their roots.”

Films will be submitted for screening and discussions. The final night is an awards night, where winning films will be recognized and celebrated. Filmmakers are encouraged to submit their films. Send an email and trailer to Dera Igwe at info@bluesandhills.com.

Film Festival Set to Celebrate 20 Years of Cinematic Journeys Around the World

07.22.2011– LOS ANGELES – The Pan African Film Festival (PAFF) is proud to announce its 20th anniversary of taking movie goers on a cinematic journey with international film screenings from around the globe. PAFF will be held on February 9-20, 2012 in Los Angeles. The film festival is the nation’s largest and most prestigious Black film festival. Over the years, it has showcased films from all parts of the world, representing such countries as Angola, Austria, England, Bermuda, Canada, Egypt, Ethiopia, Brazil, Kenya, Mexico, South African, Nigeria, and of course, the United States. With the pulse on the international film market, PAFF has opened the minds of its audiences, and transported them to lands far away and back home again. “Over the years, the filmmakers from around the world have become more sophisticated in telling their stories,” says Asantewa Olatunji, the director of programming for PAFF.

Currently, PAFF is accepting submissions of independent features, shorts, narratives and documentary films made by or about people of African descent. Applications are available via the PAFF website at www.paff.org, by emailing ao@paff.org or calling (310) 337-4737.

Eligibility:
The PAFF is currently accepting applications for films and videos made by and/or about people of African descent. (Please note: the filmmaker(s) need not be of African descent.) Films should preferably depict positive and realistic images and can be of any genre — drama, comedy, horror, adventure, animation, romance, science fiction, experimental, etc. PAFF accepts features and shorts both narrative and documentary. The film festival will accept submissions of works in progress; however, films and videos must be completed no later than December 31, 2011.

Competition:
The PAFF competition categories are: Best Narrative Feature, Best Documentary (short or feature length), Best Narrative Short, Jury Award, Director-First Feature, Festival Award and Audience Favorite. Films in competition must be copyrighted no earlier than 2011. With the exception of Audience Favorite and Festival Award all films are judged by industry professionals, selected by PAFF.

About the Pan African Film Festival
The Pan African Film and Arts Festival (PAFF), America’s largest and most prestigious Black film and arts festival, is gearing up for its 20th year of screening more than 125 films made by and/or about people of African descent from the United States, Africa, the Caribbean, South America, the South Pacific, Europe and Canada. PAFF holds the distinction of being the largest Black History Month event in the country.

Call for films – Development & Climate Days at COP 16, DEADLINE 1 November 2010

The following call for short films on climate and development can be found at the website for the International Institute for Environment and Development.

This is a call for film submissions for the fourth edition of the Development & Climate (D&C) Days Film Festival. We are looking for short films (up to 10 minutes) on climate and development. The festival will run over the weekend (4-5 December 2010) during COP 16, as a parallel event to the D&C days. It will take place in Cancun, Mexico.

Notes on the application process:

 – In order to promote discussions after screenings, we will give preference to films which can be introduced by a representative. Selected participants will be notified by email.

– If you have MORE THAN 1 FILM: Please use only one individual form per video. You can do this by filling out the details of the first film, submitting the information and reloading the form again by clicking the link in your email.

– The festival is international and we aim to screen films from all continents. In order to make the screenings accessible to most, if you film is not originally in English, we ask you to submit your film with English subtitles.

– For the selection process, it is very helpful for us if you can provide a URL where your film can be viewed online.

– We will only notify you if your film has been selected, by the end of November.
